How does the Octopus business referral offer work?

Octopus Energy’s standard referral scheme isn’t limited to residential customers.

If an existing Octopus customer refers a business that switches its energy supply to Octopus, the current reward is £75 each.

That means:

• Your business gets £75 energy credit
• I receive £75 referral credit
• Total Octopus referral reward: £150

The £75 your business receives is account credit rather than cash paid into your bank account.

How to claim the £75 business referral credit

If you’re a business switching to Octopus Energy:

1. Follow my Octopus referral link.
2. Enter your business details and get a quote.
3. Complete your switch directly with Octopus Energy.
4. Wait for your business energy supply to transfer.
5. Make your first successful Direct Debit payment.
6. Octopus will add the £75 referral reward to your business energy account if you’ve met the eligibility requirements.

It’s best to start the switch through the referral link rather than completing the switch elsewhere first.

When will my business receive the £75?

The referral credit isn’t added immediately after requesting a quote.

Your business needs to be actively supplied by Octopus and have made its first successful Direct Debit payment.

Once you’ve met the referral conditions, the £75 reward can be added to your Octopus Energy account.

Is the £75 paid in cash?

No.

For a business being referred through the normal Octopus customer referral scheme, the £75 reward is energy account credit.

It can therefore be used towards your business’s energy costs rather than withdrawn as cash.

Can I use the same Octopus referral link for a business?

Yes.

You don’t need a special business referral code when you’re being referred by an existing Octopus customer.

Octopus states that referring a business works in the same way as referring another customer: the existing customer shares their unique referral link.

Can charities get the £75 referral credit?

Octopus currently includes charity accounts within its higher referral reward.

A qualifying business or charity account referred to Octopus can receive £75 credit, with the person making the referral also receiving £75.

As always, check the current Octopus terms before completing your switch because referral offers can change.

Is this different from the £50 Octopus referral offer?

Yes.

The standard residential referral offer currently gives:

Home energy referral: £50 each

The business referral currently gives:

Business or charity referral: £75 each

So if you’re switching a business energy account, the total reward is £150 rather than £100.

Can businesses refer other businesses?

Yes.

If you’re already an Octopus business energy customer, you’ll have your own unique referral link available through your Octopus account.

You can share that link with another business. If it makes a qualifying switch, Octopus currently gives £75 credit to each business.

What if I run a business and want to refer lots of customers?

This is slightly different.

Octopus also operates a business affiliate programme called Current Account for eligible businesses that want to refer customers commercially.

That’s separate from simply using your normal Octopus customer referral link to recommend another business.

So there are two different things:

Normal Octopus referral scheme: An existing customer refers another home or business energy customer and both receive the applicable account credit.

Octopus Current Account: A separate affiliate arrangement for eligible businesses that regularly refer new customers.

If you’re simply switching your own business to Octopus and want the £75 joining credit, it’s the normal referral offer that’s relevant.

Is Octopus Energy good for businesses?

The £75 referral credit is useful, but I wouldn’t choose a business energy supplier purely because of a one-off incentive.

Business energy contracts can be significantly different from domestic energy tariffs.

Get a quote and look at the actual rates, standing charges and contract terms you’re being offered.

If Octopus works out competitively for your business, then using a referral link means you can also receive the £75 credit.
